Even if set in Paris did not show much of the city. Quite boring movie, with only two characters always talking up to the predictable happy end
Terrible movie - sooo boring
"Before Sunset" is an equally enchanting continuation of "Before Sunrise"; and most satisfying when viewed within a short time of each other. The intense connection between the two characters as they're compelled to lay their inner (and outer) selves bare; the way that they communicate not just with compelling dialogue, but with such telling expressions and body language... these are all parts of the synergy created. Ultimately it was beautiful to be reminded of this kind of experience; when two soulmates are completely lost together in an isolated portion of life - or memory of life - before anything is spoiled and where every moment is precious.
i found this to be a really bizarre movie, obviously you have to watch the first movie first!
Was the most boring film I have sat threw, o yes I remember I fell asleep..........
Enjoying this movie is really not about the relationship re-kindling on screen, but more about being able to relate to that experience. Anyone who has re-connected with someone special will understand. The pure joy of being together again and thoughts about what might've been. The movie leaves open the nice possibility of there being another sequel.
WHilst this sequel is all dialogue and really only feature the 2 lead characters, I never found it boring, and enjoyed their natural interaction and conversation. Ethan Hawke looked unwell though, almost junkie-like in his appearance. They have some interesting discussions about life and love.
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. This could have been a play as the two main actors are pretty much the only two in the movie. Nearly the entire movie is filmed walking around Paris, massive amount of dialogue and crazy end that goes knowhere. Give this a miss unless you have no life and nothing to do.
I found it hard to watch... I didn't really engage and I think there was a complete lack of chemistry, just a lot of talking.
Couldn't agree more with the characters but not as hopeful as Before Sunrise. Great dialogue.
Not funny, not exciting, not even romantic. My partner walked away, and I finished it in "fast forward".
I couldn't wait for it to end! It would have to be the most boring film I've ever seen! The two characters are insipid, dull and brainless. Their mindless chatter is incessant and you find yourself wishing that you could be doing something more exciting like watching grass grow!
I loved this movie, gorgeous views of Paris and while not quite as good as Before Sunrise it was still great ( dare I say a 'chick flick'
Kept waiting for something to happen - boring..couldnt wait for it to end.
Did not even watch the entire movie
love is a wonderful thing
Paris is the setting for this sad, but enchanting, reality confrontation between Jesse and Celine and their attempts to recapture the magical happiness of their brief meeting 9 years earlier. Now in their 30’s, bruised and more vulnerable, they realize they’ve missed opportunities to spend a lifetime together as they reveal their fears, dreams and unfulfilled relationships. Memories of wonderful moments in their past resurface in the present releasing strong emotions in this witty dialogue driven film. Guess I’m more of a romantic than I thought, preferring the youthful optimism of Before Sunrise. However, the conclusion of Before Sunset hints that we could see further development of this time-limited relationship, perhaps in 10 years. Hope so. Three and a half stars.
Found the movie boring very slow and hard to hold interest.
almost a modern version of An affair to remember, two people who were supposed to meet years before but for an incident one did not show up.They meet years later and try to rekindle what they hadyears before. It is very slow and at time boreing.
This is a very boring film. Julie Delpy just goes on and on..... The only redeeming feature is that we get to see some of the Parisian sights.
I found this a most boring movie and gave it up halfway through.
I found this a most boring movie and gave it up halfway through.
So boring I fell asleep during it. Who, in their right mind wants to watch two people have a conversation about what could of been for 80 whole minutes. OMG! Build a bridge and move on for crying out loud.
Boring. Two dreary people endlessly talking, talkin, talking. No action.
A real time movie, thought provoking.
watch it with an open mind. Gentle, atmospheric fluff! I don't think they did a bad job at all.
Boring to say the least. Spent the whole movie wondering when something decent was going to happen.
Nice views of Paris - but sheer banality after that. No depth or meaningful analysis. Why did they bother
Boring chatter that put me to sleep. Same as 'Before Sunrise'. No improvement!
I loved this, as I did the first one. I think it's a love-it or hate-it movie though so if you enjoyed the first one then this one is a must see.
Not as good as Before Sunrise - didn't feel the need to watch it again and again.
In a reprise of their characters from Before Sunrise they meet again. Jesse (Ethan Hawke's character) is now an author who has written a book which you surmise is based on their experience on the train.
Celine (Julie Delpy) turns up at the bookstore where Jesse is signing books. He leaves with her to snatch some time before he is due back to go to USA and his unhappy marriage though he stays with his wife for his kid.
They don't have as much time as the first time they met and they try to reconnect, share memories and the such like.
Paris is the backdrop. Will Jesse get on the plane or won't he?
If you love dialogue driven movies, are that late 20's to mid 40's age group and enjoy being challenged as to your own beliefs, this movie is for you!
I reviewed 'Before Sunrise' and referred to this as 'After' Sunset, not before. This is much better, more mature and thought provoking, but then so are the parties!!
I really enjoyed this movie. Rarely does a film capture your attention from the first frame and not let you go until the titles roll. Although I have not see the original film for which this is the sequel it is so well structured that this does not matter. The performances of Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy are incredibly natural - the 'making of' documentary on the disk makes clear how this was achieved through exhaustive workshopping and improvisation. The film makes you care about these characters and in a short time explores important and personal themes about modern relationships, (surprisingly deeply), leading to a satisfying and witty ending. I also love the way the director uses the device of his having to catch a plane to create impetus and dramatic tension - really good film.
Worthy & believable successor to the original, enjoyable acting, scenery and storyline.
One where I believe the sequel is better!
I still think Ethan Hawke isn't great, but in this he's better and I enjoyed the dialogue and scenes arround the Seine ;-) .
I was prepared to enjoy this sequal to what I thought an excellent "Before sunrise" movie. But I found this movie somewhat tedious in endless philosophical chit-chat, although explaining some of the loose ends.
Definitely not an action movie, so Brian slept through most of it. A sequel to Before Sunrise, it explores the dynamics between the guy and girl when they meet some years later. A lot of walking and talking with emotive undertones fluctuating as they discuss, well, everything.....
An enjoyable film that keeps us thinking that people work through love and relationships and that our problems / challengers are not very different to yours. A great little social study.
A beautiful "what if..." sequel that captures a romance found, lost and redicovered. Interesting dialogue, and the not the film for people seeking action, thrills, adventure or mystery. The film has far more meaning if you have seen the first installment, "Before Sunrise." Before Sunset is a superb example of an instance where the sequel is every bit as good as the first movie. Well-acted in relation to a movie carried solely by two people and the dialogue it contains.
Maybe if I had seen Before Sunrise than I might not have found this movie sooooo dead boring! I couldn't stand anymore than the first half hour of one on one dialogue and it didn't appear to be getting any better.
