Director: Richard Linklater
Actors: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

Yesterday strangers, today inseparable soulmates. But separate they must in just a few hours. Jesse and Celine are making every moment count, pouring as much living as they can into the time Before Sunrise. From Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused) comes another smartly observed tale of young people at a crossroads. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy play twentysomethings who meet on a train in Europe, sense a connection and explore after-hours Vienna together. The people, places and allure of the city become their sudden itineraries. Love is their destination. On the way there's the mutual sharing of jokes, dreams, worry and wonder. It's a day to linger in their memories. And a valentine to young love forever.

May be deemed a bit on the slow side. However, its philosophy is profound and challenges the status quo. It is a proponent of living in the Now.

Before Sunrise (the first one - Before Sunset covers their meeting years later). Starts Julie Delpy, a very beautiful young woman. The movie is a dull and pointless conversation that only a very young and inexperienced person could enjoy.

A young man and woman meet on a train in Europe, and wind up spending one romantic evening together in Vienna. Unfortunately, both know that this will probably be their only night together. Horrible

Liked this more than most reviewers. If you don't like dialogue in a movie then definitely don't bother with this one. However if you like the idea of two young people getting to know one another then give it a go. Thought the Ethan Hawke character was slightly off putting, but Julie Delpy was great.

This would be the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. Towards the end I just started skipping to the next scene. Same boring stuff!

This movie was quite quirky but enjoyable in a lot of ways. Nice film to watch and reminisce about times you have spent enjoying cities in Europe.

This movie will strike a chord with anyone who has experienced a chance meeting leading to a brief unconsumated love affair. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy accidentally meet, are mutually attracted and for 14 hours open up to each other in ways that their limited time together force upon them. Without empathy with their situation viewers will find their conversations and near plotless story boring. However, if you are engaged, as I was, it's a charming romance with plenty of erotic tension.

Sorry I found this rather boring, a good movie to put on while doing something else as there is no real story to follow.

I saw the sequel first... set approx 10 years later, they are so 'enquiring' in this, definitely worth watching. The sequel is better, 'After sunset'if I recall.

Unengaging characters, tedious dialogue, overly self-concious and contrived. I abandoned the movie after 15 mins. Maybe it would've improved but I wasn't prepared to waste any more of my life finding out.

I actually saw the second movie (Before Sunset) first and remember I quite enjoyed it. But this movie wasn't anywhere near as enjoyable. It was a very similar movie, however it just seemed to drag on and on... the whole movie is basically a dialogue between two people, a guy and a girl who meet on a train in europe, and spend a day and an evening together in Venice. I was expecting a movie up to the quality of the second, but was let down.

A clever script (like 'Tapes') that we found engaging from both our individual experiences and observed gender behaviours. Looking forward to the follow up 'Before Sunset'.

Julie Delpy is beautiful and puts in a winning performance and Wien is gorgeous. Ethan Hawke is ho hum! This is a film that required either tighter editing or tighter scripting.

A thoroughly absorbing and charming film. Protracted dialogue between the (only)two main characters is never boring, highlighting several fascinating ideas in conversation, exploring feelings and aspirations. Set against a background of wonderful historic buildings and situations, the film is an absolute delight.

I actually saw Before Sunset before seeing Before Sunrise. Maybe this has tainted my view. But I can definitely say that Before Sunset is worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately, I'd give Before Sunrise only 3. The sequel is amazingly filmed and definitely worth seeing if you are disappointed with Before Sunrise.

This is a gentle but non-cliched story that never goes too far in telling the story of two young people poised to head in their own directions who by chance meet on the train to Vienna - and take a chance which enhances their lives.Ethan Hawke is most engaging as well as his young co-star Ms Delpy.

Absolutely marvellous movie. A "fly on the wall" approach with long, continuous scenes. The superb acting of beautiful actress, Julie Delphy showing the development of their interaction over the course of about 12 hours is top of the class. Had one not known that they would meet again, (in Before Sunset),one would feel extremely sad at the uncertainty of them ever seeing each other again as their empathy is something that has to be seen to be believed. If you are contemplating seeing in the theatre, "Before Sunset", see this first. This DVD is definitely a permanent addition to my library and will receive many replayings.
