One of the great films of the French New Wave, Bande à part (Band of Outsiders) is director Jean-Luc Godard’s classic tale of disaffected youth in suburban Paris. A simple story about two young delinquents and a beautiful girl (Anna Karina) who conspire to commit a robbery, Bande à part is best remembered for its quirky set pieces, including the celebrated mad dash through the Louvre, and, of course, the iconic scene where the Parisian pranksters dance the Madison in a half-empty café.

Probably Godard's most charming film, and this or Breathless would be the best starting film for those unfamiliar with the director. It doesn't have the impact or originality of other iconic Godard films, but this is very enjoyable, and Karina shines as always. Godard's own intermittent narration throughout is brilliant.

This Godard favourite benefits from a slightly smaller ego than the rest. Its very cool style comes from smooth choreography - the famous cafe dance, the running of the Louvre and the constant well timed interplay between the three leads. The dialogue is mostly drivel, but there's no flashing neon title cards, so all in all it's a winner.
