Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than ten years in the making, Avatar marks Cameron's return to feature directing since helming 1997's Titanic, winner of eleven Oscars® including Best Picture and, until Avatar, the highest grossing film of all time. WETA Digital, renowned for its work in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and King Kong, will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters.

Amazing. I am usually disappointed by movies that have so much hype surrounding them, but not with Avatar! Everything about it was beautiful. Will definitely be purchasing it in 3D if it ever comes to Australia. Loved it!

Not as good as I had hoped, but solid enough. Great eye candy, weak story

A truly great Sci-Fi movie with a bit of everything. Mind boggling special effects,a romance, evil mining company executives,a general issue American military commander. Oh and even a war.

I really enjoyed this film even though I am not a sci-fi fan. Great watching it on a big screen with Blu-ray. My children tell me it is even better in 3D but I prefer watching the movies at home.

I was blown away by the visual spectacular when I saw this in 3D at the movies. Wanted to see it again - and was nearly as impressed. The eye candy is still amazing, but not as good as in 3D. I agree with others that the story could have been a little less "worn" or predictable (especially having the evil "boss" character) , but it still carries it off brilliantly and I think it is a great movie. My sci-fi hating wife watched it under duress and really enjoyed it.

Truly an awe inspiring acheivement in visual effects, but that's pretty much it. Another dredgingly hollow storyline that has become common place in todays modern movies. Does it really need a 'main baddie'? Considering that the movie was actually nominated for a best picture, I would have expected a much more artistic and soulful experience, instead was just subjected to a visual orgasm. Some lame dialog here and there (even my girlfriend thought the part where they try to bring back Sigourney Weaver's character was face-palm worthy) but overall an entertaining but ultimately shallow experience.

Really liked this movie, has a gaia concept going on in there(see "the fountain" if you like the homeostasis trip) It has a good and strong environmental message. It analogizes how the Seppo military are the thugs of the Mining Corporations and nothing is more precious then profit. Big Pharma doesn't want you to have a cure growing in your backyard either. Kids will love it, except for the fact tobacco companies have paid for a spot in there too, or is that a libertarian slant. Now, where has my tinfoil hat gone!

Story line was good versus evil. But, brilliant digital filming. Loved the plants and animals. Very clever that you didn't realise just how big the Pandorans were. Not a sci-fi fan but could watch it again. 21st Century never never land.

When you take off the special effects, its really just another dime-a-dozen American movie. Same plot and same predictable ending as we'v seen over and over again. Still a decent watch though! 3/5

Absolutely loved it in 3D at the movies and was surprise to find I enjoyed it as much at home (2D)- definitely needs a big screen though (preferably projector on a wall!). I have left one star off simply because it cannot rate the same as in 3D.

An excellent film. I think the special effects far outweigh the story line which is quite slow. On my second viewing i found myself looking at the watch. It is however visually amazing, the colours and deep landscapes will looks amazing in Blu-ray. If you missed it at the movies this is your chance to visit Pandora in all its glory.
