I've seen countless reviews that say this movie is really bad. Well, maybe there are a lot of holes ... some really big ones in fact ... but for pure fun and entertainment I'd give Armageddon a definite thumbs up! Although similar in storyline to Deep Impact, I found Armageddon to be a lot more exciting and enjoyable to watch.
To be honest I was expecting nothing more than just a lot of special effects. Quite often these big budget sci-fi movies lack a storyline but behind all the special effects and testosterone there's a very watchable love story complete with sci-fi, action, and drama.
Ben AffleckA.J. Frost (Ben Affleck) is in love with Grace (Liv Tyler) whose Dad, Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) happens to be the best deep core oil driller in the world, he's also A.J's boss and doesn't take too kindly to A.J. courting his daughter.
After NASA realises that there's a huge asteroid racing towards earth (Deep Impact???) they decide that the only way the human race has any chance of survival is by sending a team of astronauts onto the surface of the asteroid where they can drill a hole, throw down a nuclear bomb and then get the hell outta there before getting blown up. With only 18 days to impact, NASA recruits Bruce and his team, trains them in the ins and outs of space travel and sends them off to save the world.
Taking this movie too seriously will probably ruin the enjoyment. There's no doubt that it's absolutely full of holes but the acting is well done, there's quite a bit of tongue in cheek humour and there are enough special effects to keep you glued to the screen.
one word! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not usually a fan of space type movies but this was really good to watch. It had a good storyline and great effects. And I even let a tear or two out at the end
it's got Bruce, what else does a movie need.
the best movie about ppl going to space and saveing the world there is and is pretty funny to. a great comedy drama film well worth seeing if you havent and even worth seeing again if you have.
My favourite movie of all time.
Its got everything, action, excitement, drama, laughs, and every time I hear Liv Tyler say "Daddy, no!" I start crying too.
Plus I like to think that if a meteorite ever really has the earth in it's sights that we puny humans might really be able to do something about it like Bruce does!
After this second viewing I'm convinced, this is the ultimate cliche ridden film. What a total waste of the superb special effects, even if scientifically impossible.
It's hard to go wrong with Michael Bay. My highest respects for that storyteller. Armageddon is the peak of what hollywood represents. I mean, cut out all the patriotism, all the "saving the world" jibberish, and what you have is simply a film about fighting odds, justice, and never giving up. We've been telling stories about this for centuries. It never gets boring as long as the storyteller has us under a spell. And that's what I mean.
EXCELLENT!!! America deserves the credit for saving the World, as they know how to make movies! Even ones that reach further than just the mind! Michael Bay did a fantastic job. Turn on the surround sound and heat up some popcorn for a great watch!
Great movie. Love the soundtrack.
Purile nonsence - how could Bruce Willis get involved in this?
Amazing how the last 20 minutes of a movie can ruin the entire thing.
Very far fetched and very American but a very enjoyable movie non the less, park the brain and enjoy this good action flick.
A great action packed adventure. Staring some huge actors stars too. If you like end movie like Deep Impact them don't go past this great movie. Has some spectacular effects and some AAA (astounding asteroid action).
What is it about "Americans saving the world" movies? Of the genre this is one of the worst.
Typical tough guy movie all been done before. Yawn Yawn.
Great effects, good story, and a good role played by Bruce Willis.
An excellent movie if you like schmalzty US propaganda dressed up in a well made action flick with good humour.
Some of the greatest corny lines and excellent performances from Billy Bob Thornton (who rarely lets you down) and Steve Buscemi.
Plot is pretty basic - asteroid will destroy the world unless team of offshore drillers can train as astronauts, get on the asteroid, drill a hole a drop a couple of nukes down to blow it up. Quite long but keeps you interested.
