Despite the fact that there is lots of blood and cruelty in this film, I did like it. Colouful feast for one's eyes: costumes, make up (including body make ups/tattoos, skin scarifications, ear lobe alterations, nose piercings, etc.), jade, turquoise, etc.Filmed in the Mexican jungle. Lots of action (chasing and fighting). Spoken in Maya language, with English subtitles. Some extra features included. Highly recommended for most viewers! And especially good to see in Blue ray format.
Lengthy movie with too much of violence. Did not enjoy it at all.
As a Blu Ray this movie is Beautiful in both sound and vision. As a story loosely based on the Mayans, please see the National Geographic website for a some glaring inaccuracies (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/12/061208-apocalypto-mel.html), it is still a very good imagining.
But what this movie is REALLY good at is an exploration or demonstration of Mel Gibson's disturbed darker creative side. If you put this with the Traitors William Wallace Death (Hung, Drawn and Quartered) scene in Brave Heart and more recently and the The Passion of The Christ you have got to worry what he has in his basement. At the moment I am watching the HBO series The Tudors (also subject to large inaccuracies) and the fear of the punishment of the Traitors death sentence portrayed Braveheart make the "imagined Gibson brutal depictions" more concrete.
Realistic looking life from the village level. Seen from the point of view of a hunter / gatherer who gets pulled into Mayan civilization of slavery, ceremony and sacrifice. Brutal hard realities with moments of humanity and pathos.
Not necessarily for the faint hearted but one of the best movies I've watched in a long time. The story line draws you in and the action keeps your pulse racing through out the movie. I very interesting look into a somewhat forgotten world.
Looked like it was shot on my mum's handy-cam. I could not believe it was Dean Semler. The story? Ridiculous bad vs good one-dimensional rubbish with no nuance whatsoever.
Fantastic movie, completely transports you to a different time and civilisation. The violence is confronting but is in context. The standard of the acting is brilliant and you almost forget it is in subtitles as the performers embrace the emotions of their characters - a great credit to director Mel.
Mel Gibson is a fantasic director as well as actor. THis is a movie not to be missed.
Intriquing movie, great story, great plot, very much a must see - kind of a pity it was let down a bit at the very end ( no I won't ruin the ending), but this doesn't take away much from what is just a damn good movie.
Brutal but enthralling story. Great characters. I even hit the rewind a few times to see the best bits again! It's a must see.
Very impressive visuals and a strong theme. Well executed.
An eye opener! Gets your attention early and never lets go.
the best thing ive seen for ages, he really is a star. this is too good
