David Naughton and Jenny Agutter star in this classic cult black comedy. American backpackers David Kessler (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) take off for a three month European jaunt. Walking in the desolate English countryside, they come across some locals who give them chilling words of advice: "Keep to the road and keep clear of the moors" and "Beward of the moon". The boys set off into the darkness and hear a terrifying howl from across the moors, unaware that they are being stalked by a mythical beast with a taste for blood. Those who are killed by this creature become the undead, roaming the earth throughout eternity, but anyone who escapes with his life has a different fate in store...

It has outstanding makeup effects and a few memorable scenes, but a pretty weak script and forgettable characters. It's good for a little bit of fun, but don't expect too much from this film.

Sure, some of the effects look terrible now that we're all used to CGI and whatever else, but that doesn't stop this from being a classic horror comedy that both nerds and general viewers can appreciate.

This one is a classic. Showing some signs of age now, but the effects are still great, the air is still creepy and scary, the comedic moments are still funny, and the music is still excellent (nice stack of "moon" songs!). Well worth a look, puts a lot of modern horror movies to shame!

This movie is a lot of fun. I saw it when it first came out and it is still a great funny, scary movie. The special effects at the time were cutting edge and they still hold up pretty well. The nicest thing about the movie is the charming leads who you like and identify with. It features David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two young American backpackers who encounter a werewolf on the english moors. It also stars Jennifer Agutter, one of the most lovely actresses of the 70's, as a nurse who becomes involved with the boy who survives the werewolf attack. This is a brilliant film, it is touching, funny and sad. John Landis' best I think.

Not quite a classic, but still a landmark movie, combining black comedy with some groundbreaking (at the time, anyway) creature effects and some outright scary stuff. The director does an excellent job of balancing the different emotional reactions you get from scene to scene. Thankfully, he stops short of outright horror. Look for a small role by Rik Mayall!

This is the all time best Werewolf movie ever! Has some of the best make up effects too. It's so cool to see his transformation! It's got a great lot and lots of oddball moments along the way. One of the high lights of this movie is his living dead friend. He has some very funny lines. This movie puts a different spin on a age old legend. It's got a great ending which took a long time to film. It's interesting to listen to the commentary and hear all the hard work that went into this elaborate film. It's a modern classic.
