Director: Mike Leigh
Actors: Timothy Spall, Lesley Manville, Ruth Sheen, Marion Bailey, Alison Garland, James Corden

Taking place over the course of a weekend and set amongst the run-down surroundings of a south London housing estate, Mike Leigh's All Or Nothing paints a vivid portrait of the lives of taxi driver Phil (Timothy Spall), his dysfunctional family and a selection of their neighbours. Phil's partner Penny (Lesley Manville) works as a supermarket checkout girl and is the mother of their two grossly overweight children, Rachel (Alison Garland), a cleaner in a home for the elderly, and unemployed Rory (James Corden), who spends most of his time on the couch watching the TV.

When an unexpected tragedy occurs, it sets all those involved on an emotional journey that will change their lives forever. Nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, All Or Nothing is a darkly comic film, full of sharp one-liners and features some of the Leigh's most brilliantly observed characters to date.

Mike Leigh does his usual. Depressing London, sink estates, bitter sweet lives. If you love Mike Leigh (and I do) then you'll love this. If you aren't familiar with his work then start on Secrets and Lies as it is more accessible. This is definitley up there with the best of them though. A beautiful piece of cinema from a very talented cast and crew.

Be prepared to be dragged into the quagmire of English housing estates and the grind of daily life. Brilliant acting from Timothy Spall and family. A Must See

A depressing look at life in the housing estates but compelling view. Timothy Spall is as usual fanatastic.

Mike Leigh is an amazing Director. Sure, this film shows the seamier side of families living and struggling with life and love in a depressing London housing estate. The cast is brilliant and there is an honesty in this film which is very movingly portrayed. A very satisfying film.

I cant help but feel a little uneasy with some of the background characters stories not having direction or closure by the films end when the core family are left with the mindset that you could win the lottery next week, or maybe through other peoples eyes you already have theme. But I guess that is what in many cases life is like, but wherever this movie gets the comedy tag from I am totally lost.

Have to agree with Peter Meyer's review. A pretty depressing movie, despite another good performance by Timothy Spall.

I enjoyed several of Mike Leighs films alot more than I did All or Nothing. I like his style and All or Nothing is no exception to this, although I was a little disappointed.

The only positive thing about this incredibily depressing slice of Pommy life is that it will make you feel very good about your own life. Timothy Spall is amazing, but it doesn't really go anywhere.
