Great movie, it's a must see.
Best Alien horror movie ever and I haven't seen a better one yet.....
the best one of them all, fantastic
This movie has aged pretty well, and although some opinions I have heard is that Alien 2 is a better movie, any Sci-Fi buff will dispute that. The sequel may be pretty good, but Alien was a genre-busting movie, like "The Exorcist" was to horror and "Saving Private Ryan" to WW2.
There are some inexplicable scenes, not readily explained by the Director's commentary, such as how (and why) the landing craft acquired a breach in the hull, and even the final scenes, where Ripley discovers the Alien all wrapped up in pipe work behind some panels. Was it having a nap in there? And she turns her back on the monster as it unravels itself for the final chomp.
Anyway, I have often maintained that this movie bears similarities to the first story in a sci-fi anthology called "The Voyage of the Space Beagle" by A E van Vogt.
It's a classic and right up there.

There is a monster in the house which must be destroyed. A horror movie set in outer space that manages to be visually inspired and full of tension.
Good movie. Still watchable and should be seen. Hasn’t aged well e.g. compared to Blade Runner (The Blu-Ray is quite good) or Aliens. If one knows the underlying premise, which has since been re-used in subsequent movies, then the surprises are not as effective.
Bad audio, some not too shabby special effects, but overall it wasn't too bad. Let's just say my fists were clenched the entire time..
made 30 yrs ago and still scares the ..! Great story line, great acting, the cramped areas, dark light, sudden appearances, music.... It all comes together very well.... I had seen some of the sequels, but not this original one, and eventhough I had some idea what was coming, it still grabbed me from beginning till end... Cant wait to see the sequels again !
It' hard to believe something this effective was made so long ago. Great movie, I watched it in the 90's as a teenager and forgot about it, found it recently with the following 4 and each one was as good as each other.
Golly was this really done in 1979? It still stands up very well today. What an iconic movie. Solid storyline, great FX, those extremely scary aliens, and Sigourney as Ripley. Go Ripley!
Very good movie. Gotta love the ending scene :]
always a great movie will watch again again.
Classic Sci-Fi thriller. Great directing. Fantastic for it's time. The computer displays in the ships are very basic and all flashy lights but all the other effects are still very acceptable. If you like sci-fi or thrillers don't miss this one.
It's JAWS in SPACE!
An oldy but a goody! Who would have guessed that Ripley would become synonomous with classic horror as a pretty much unknown actress?
Alien is the movie that helped launche the career ofdirector Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner). A minimalist budget and some body special effects only helps scare you in this timeless classic. A must see (for adults).
A pretty amazing film for 1979. You can see where so many sci-fi thrillers have gotten their ideas. There are also lots of references back to classics like 2001 and Star Wars. The only problem with this film having so much influence is that it now seems a bit predictable.
The only movie that ever scared me in the cinema.
Great movie for it's time. A little out dated now but still worth a watch. I watched it with my 13yo son and he enjoyed it, now he can't wait to watch the next one!
Got this out to show my son. Bit disappointed as it is dated and a bit slow to start.
Dated in terms of stuff nowadays obviously, but some good performances, and some prophetic technology, but not all it's hyped up to be. Ii'm hoping the sequels are better.
Classic movie - nothing more freaky than an alien baby.
Love the Alien movies. First movie to really scare me when I was a kid.
Terrific. Almost a 50s B horror scii-fi with a 70s budget. Terrific cast and production and at times really quite scary. Can be watched time and again.
A classic sci-fi thriller that despite being released over 25 years ago, is still better than most of its genre. Life on board the interspace tow vehicle Nostromo is about to take a turn for the worse after a distress signal is intercepted by the onboard computer. Great stuff!
A little slow to start but a classic SC-FI MUST SEE!
The one and only original, many people have copied the ides of this film, but it still stands on its own as a classic in its own right. I still enjoy it to this day a great deal. I have to say that the next one "ALIENS" is even better (slightly more modern) - so borrow the two of them, and give yourself a scare!
I was too scred to watch this film when it was first released and left the cinema! However being older and braver it was great to see a piece of cinematic history. It was great. Only the first time I watched it Sigorney looked like an "adult", this time she looked like a child!!
Still love the suspense after after all these years
Good quality sci-fi if that's your thing.
Still the scariest monster ever created
The movie wasn't all that it was supoose to be. My friends said it was great and kinda told me a bit about it. I guess I will get the second one out to see if it gets better.
Great horror movie, Very scary, great use of lighting (or lack of) still stands today as one of the best.
Despite its age a great sci fi film. All actors do well and the best monster ever on the big screen still scares the hell out of me the same way when I first watched this aged 11.
A pure classic. Scary through atmosphere not only gore. Masterpiece.
One of the scariest movies ever. We all know the alien is about to burst out but we all jump anyway. The best by far of the series.
The first is the most scary, I don't want to go up into space anytime soon! In space no one can hear you scream.
A serious thriller with realistically human characters. Beautiful in execution.
This is without a doubt my favourite movie ever made. Rent it and see what you think.
All the new extended features are great couldn't get enough
A classic sci-fi creature feature from Ridley Scott which owes its origins from the 1958 movie "It! The Terror From Beyond Space". This is the first and the best of the "Alien" series of movies. It stars Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, the emancipated female Rambo. The computer graphics are simple yet effective and some were even re-used for "Blade Runner". This movie has everything -- not only does Ripley have to contend with a blood-thirsty alien, but has to deal with big business underhanded machinations.
A bit slow but nevertheless a great start to what has become a great cult classic "scary movie".
Perhaps effects/technological bits are a little dated now, but still riveting viewing. Recommend you see this before the superior sequel, "Aliens" .
