Andy Serkis as Capt Haddock is superb and lifts the film to another level - all other characters are not so well defined and Snowy [the dog] least of all - this in comparison to the many adventures of the original TV series and comics. You'd have 'thunk' that these would have been used as the basis of this film. The opening credits are very disappointing - maybe drawn by a 'work experience' junior.
awesome, loved it, great animation. great entertaining movie for the whole family.
It may be an animated movie, but this adventure is thrilling, funny and full of excitement. My husband used to love the comic book and it has great memories for him and I laughed and truly disappeared into the adventure with some of the unique and wonderful characters along the way. Don't need kids to enjoy.. but they would love it too.. even our savvy techno kids..
Enjoyable! The animation was very good, our whole family enjoyed the movie.
(Did anyone else think the "bad guy" (Sakarhin - not sure if that's the right spelling!) looked a little like Steven Spielberg?)
Is it going to be continued, as it does in "Red Rackham's Treasure"?
Great film- must have taken ages to make! Loved Tin Tin comics and love the movie too.
loved it!! amazing graphics. very colourful vibrant full of action keep you guessing whats next. funny characters full of laughs and excitement. very good family entertainment.
Great animation . Must see for fans of the comics
Looking forward to follow ups.
My 8 year old son, didn't want to watch this. After watching it he's started to read the comics.......and he can't wait for them to make another one. I though it was well done as well.
Loved it. Really appreciate the work that went behind re-inventing this glorious and slowly forgotten character from my childhood. Excellent voice performances by all involved.
i was never a real tintin fan but thought after watching previews it might be worth a look............... & it was. Again, recomended viewing for the whole family
Uncanny valley animation, overwrought action sequences masquerading as 'epic', glommed together with the thinnest spackle of invented contrivance of a plot that tries to blend several disjointed fragments from a handful of the original books.
Earns the dubious distinction of being the first 'film' to make me actually whimper out loud "Make it sto-ho-hooop!" (which happened near the end at the crane battle).
The animation is fantastic. At times I had to remind myself it was animated, beacause it looks so realistic. My only criticism was that they overworked Tintin getting knocked out. Other than that - brilliant. The whole family love it!
Worth a watch. The animation within real life is quite mesmerising. Its a bit long though.....and all gets a bit crazy toward the end.
If you love tintin the comic from the 1970's and 1980's. My husband loved it.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Amazing animation, clever adventure story for adults and children alike, dry humour and English wit (which I love) perfectly matched with the excellent voice cast. As much as I hate to praise him - Steven Spielberg did an excellent job with the assistance of Peter Jackson. Fun for the whole family. I'm only sorry I did not see this on the big screen. I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
Outstanding animation and a fast paced romp from start to finish. Ideal demographic would be teenage boys, but enough humour and plot to appeal to a wider audience. Reminiscent of earlier action films from Steven Speilberg in it's style.
Wonderful animation and very clever. Not suitable for younger children with alcoholic sailor and violence. Interesting but not humorous enough to make it captivating.
Enjoyed it .. amazed at the animation/graphics... enjoyed the comic books when I was in school and thought that they kept it true to them..
Enjoyed it, amazing effects. Probably a movie to see on the big screen.
As a fan of the comics as a teen, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how the characters came to life in animation. Wildly impossible but funny.
Really enjoyed it and assume much better up on the big screen.
Good boys movie. It is obvious Steven Spielberg has a love of Herge and Tin Comics. It was very well done, although hard to translate a cmic into a movie. It leaves itself open to another movie or a series. However, I found it a bit slow going
Brilliant adaption of the classic Herg? books. CGI is some of the best work I've seen to date, but it's the collaboration of a very talented team of actors, artists etc that have brought this to life so well. Excellent casting too. I'm probably a bit sentimental about it as I grew up reading the books, but that also usually makes you more critical of any interpretation. The extras are well worth watching too - listen to Spielberg talk about discovering Tintin in 1980s when he was doing Indiana Jones, and how he spoke to Herg? about making a film but Herg? passed away before they got to meet. And Peter Jackson and Weta is the perfect complement, Spielberg originally approached him just to animate snowy, the test animation Weta did is hilarious with Jackson playing Haddock.
Intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock's ancestor. Not in the same street as Pixar
A great interpretation of a famous comic book.
Enjoyable but not as good as I was expecting. Would have been great in 3d
Our 6 and 5 year olds have enjoyed it. I think kids below that age would be bored.
The only cop out was when the Captain related the story of the Unicorn in a state of delusion. Easy way out. As a whole though this was a cracking yarn, with superior special effects. A sort of adult cartoon for the kids. A lot of work and thought went into this production and it really delivers in every respect.
Loved this because it kept the kids quite for an hour and a half, good stuff.
excellent animated film just how I remembered Tin Tin when I was growning up
Great CGI and kids loved it . It ignited their imagination. They (and us) watched it a few times, discovering something new everytime ! Would hire it again - later
A good movie for the kids. A really good adaptation of the old tales. My favourite part is right at the beginning when the artist draws Tin Tins face...as he appears in the adventure stories. Clever.
very well made movie,I love how the cartoon people look like real people
It was a good(ish) movie but I expect A-grade animated features to be as cogent and cohesive as A-grade flicks that aren't animated. This kind of wasn't. For me, its a significant criticism that in order to get somewhere the filmaker creates a slippery association or realisation so the story jumps to where he wants it. If the comic books were like this I didnt notice it as much. On film its stands out and is kind of b-grade story telling. Great animation.
Great effects, good story - took me back to my childhood.
Delightful, fabulous animation, Speilberg does it again :))
The young and the old will enjoy this film!
Captn Haddhock did have a drinking problem. The comic books were tured into aminated cartoons, the drwaings of the "cartoons" identical to the comic bookdrawings, In the opening scene of this wonderful movie, the artist produces a portrait straight from the comic book style.
This is jus the first of 4 espisodes of the secret of the Unicorn
The animation is so lifelike, ad the vioces and music are consistent with the animated cartoons from tov 20 years ago.
What also impresses is that the end credits includes a list of stunt people, so the animation technolgy is based on real movment.
You do have to be a Tin Tin fan to watch this. Maybe kids like it but as an adult I found it dull and drawn out. I went to sleep.
Excellent movie.Would recommend 4 1/2 stars
Brilliant for the whole family. My kids watched it over and over again, Very entertaining and a great one for everyone.
What a fantastic movie, for any age, kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through - trust Speilberg.
read all (or most) of the books -in Dutch as Kuifje.. So yeah knew the characters and love the movie!!
Good story, plenty of twists and humour, realistically depicting the characteres from the comic! Bit focussing to much on the drinking porblem of Capt. Haddock, but that is only a minor criticism..
Graphics good, length good, worth seeing!
It's so good to see such charaictors from Europe. I can remember when you could only get TinTin in french. It's taken a lifetime for these to come to life in english.
Can't say I appreciated Captain Haddock being portrayed as a hopeless drunk in this movie. Nevertheless it was good fun. The kids loved it. And this was the most lifelike cgi/animation I've ever seen in a movie. It's worth watching just to see how amazing the cgi is.
Such a good movie! hope there a Part 2!
I've been a Tintin fan since I was a child, so I thoroughly enjoyed this guilty outing down memory lane. Like so many movies these days, it ended with a nod to a sequel which may happen, based on box office. If you like Tintin then you will most certainly like this movie and if you don't know Tintin, start with the animated series and then watch this movie.
Nice adventure film. The look of the film is amazing. Sounds silly, but one criticism I had was that the action becomes a bit too "cartoony", which doesn't sit well with the feel of the beginning of the film. Still, it's definitely one I'd like to watch again.
I kept forgetting this movie was animation, because it was so beautifully done. My husband and I thouroughly enjoyed this movie and I would recommend it to anyone. Young kids might find the storyline a little hard to follow but Mum & Dad will love it.
Great for an animated movie looked realistic had a great time watching with my young son.
The Crab with the Golden Claws mixed in with the Secret of the Unicorn and then for good measure elements were added from Red Rackham's Treasure, the Shooting Star and the Castafiore Emerald. Five stories wrapped up into something that looks and feels like a single story. Jackson has treated the source material with respect and added to it well. Great movie.
What matters most is that it is better than the most recent Asterix movies.
Really enjoyed it. I grew up with the books and then the animated tv series so it was very cool to see the familiar characters brought to life with CGI and rendered realistically. Spielberg and Jackson are to be congratulated. And Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as Thomson and Thompson was a nice touch. I'll be back for the next one.
If you loved Tintin as a kid, you'll love this movie. The graphics are awsome, great adventure storyline - almost something for everyone (not little kids though I'd say)..... bit of comedy in there - its a solid flick!
Being a childhood fan of the Tin Tin books, I was really looking forward to this. I found the animation to be both brilliant and really annoying but not both at the same time. Some of the action sequences were well choreographed, but some were also clearly designed for 3D wow factor, I think. Some of the rendering was really great. Most of it actually. The plot droned along fairly quickly, but there was little variation in pace. I found the acting unconvincing, and the "light bulb" moments were cringeworthy, but probably OK if you are 8. Other than some technical gee-whizzery, I don't think there is much in this film for adults. Overall: Unlike the books, this film is charmless.
Loved it what an adventure, this is the second time I've watched it, kids liked it too.
Funny, superbly acted, so entertaining and very true to the original Tintin literature material. Definitely a must see for any fan and lover of great cgi movies.
Extremely well made film full of action that gets better as it goes along.
Great graphics, but the kids did not like it. Thought I was watching a Indiana jones movie, but not as believable
I'm biased because I was a Tin Tin fan in earlier years, and this was great fun. Loved the scene with the duelling cranes. Obviously set up for a sequel - looking forward to it.
Great for anyone familiar with the comics. Made me become a kid again.
Never seen of heard of Tintin before watching this movie. Not even sure why I had this in my queue, so I'm probably not appreciating it as much as I would if I grew up with the stories... The animation is great, but I think this is probably more suitable for kids/early teens.
Excellent, the animation/motion capture is amazing and they've really portrayed the story accurately.
A great Spielberg work. His touch really does show. As his first animated feature I must say that he's done a very impressive job. It's full of adventure, humour and imagination.
