Director: Stephan Elliott
Actors: Bill Hunter, Guy Pearce, Hugo Weaving, Terence Stamp

On Monday, 13 September 1993 the cast of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert faced the cameras for the very first time. Eight months later the completed movie was feted with the audience award as the Most Popular Film at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and at the San Francisco and Seattle Festivals.
Audiences screamed her praises when 'Priscilla' opened across Australia in September 1994. And at the next year's Academy Award presentation Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel won the Oscar for Best Costume Design.
Now get ready, once again, to go bush with Bernadette (Terence Stamp), Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Guy Pearce) aboard the lavender bus called 'Priscilla' as they head for Alice Springs with a drag show, with hits by Abba, Charlene, Alicia Bridges, Gloria Gaynor and The Village People. It's a cabaret unlike anything the locals have ever seen before.

I had not watched this previously, and am glad I finally saw it now! Awesome performances by Terrance, Hugo and Guy. Great script and great setting. Will be buying this and keeping in my permanent collection to revisit every so often.

This is an Australian Iconic movie that busted open barriers (but also created some) around Australia!! I sit down with the wife and kids every 3-4 years to watch again.

Thin story line, bad dancing and bad miming to bad music. Only thing that saves this movie is the costumes.

I remember the outrage Priscilla caused when released .... movie about gays made by straights. I sort of got bored with the movie as it was played everywhere. So have not seen it or even considered watching for 10 plus years .... it was GREAT! My partner ended up dancing with the drag shows ... she knows the movements as well as they do! It is a really smart movie as well as there is lots of family stuff in the movie ... suitable for everyone ... except for some of the swearing.

One of the best Australian movies ever made. What more could you ask for? Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce in drag, and the stunning scenery of the Australian outback.

Requested this again after we went to the musical live show in Sydney. Classic Aussie movie and the play does it justice. Highly recommend both.

Interesting in itself, to see how far the Australian film industry has come generally in sophistication, and how far Hugo Weaving has come as an actor. Frocks to die for, and some really funny throwaway lines embedded in the film.

A landmark piece of Australian cinema that combined Australia's quirky reputation in film with its stunning outback setting, a huge cast and a brilliant set and costume design - and, for the first time, wowed audiences with its extravagance and polish, as well as maintaining a hard-hitting storyline that was almost taboo with bourgeouis Australia in the early 1990s. The three leads perform their roles with absolute professionalism, and many regard this to be the greatest film for each of them. It's essentially a gayploitation film, but not in the mould of "Going Down", "Head On" or, from the US, "Shampoo Horns": it retains a warmth and truth not previously seen in this type of film, which displays every attitude imagineable to homosexuality but doesn't let them get in the way of a great story. Shot in Alice Springs, Broken Hill, Coober Pedy, and Sydney.

Very very funny. Guy Pearce makes the best queen ever and Hugo Weaving does a fantastic job. Costumes are spectacular and the settings awesome. One of the greatest Aussie films ever.
