Coarse language, drug use and sexual references

Director: Greg Mottola
Actors: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Ryan Reynolds, Martin Starr, Margarita Levieva

It's the summer of 1987, and James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg), an uptight recent college grad, can't wait to embark on his dream tour of Europe. But when his parents (Wendie Malick and Jack Gilpin) announce they can no longer subsidize his trip, James has little choice but to take a lowly job at a local amusement park. Forget about German beer, world-famous museums and cute French girls-James' summer will now be populated by belligerent dads, stuffed pandas, and screaming kids high on cotton candy. Lucky for James, what should have been his worst summer ever turns into quite an adventure as he discovers love in the most unlikely place with his captivating co-worker Em (Kristen Stewart), and learns to loosen up.

For some reason I had never even heard of the movie Adventureland until the other day. I’ve been a member of Quickflix for a while now and with the release of the new twilight movie, they had all the Kristen Stewart movies on the front page. Recently as well I have watched a couple of Jesse Eisenberg films too so I thought why not… To my surprise when I started to watch the movie there were many pretty big names in the movie such as Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Reynolds, Kristen Stewart… A few people I’ve spoken to didn’t seem to like the movie but I don’t know why… In the movie Jesse Eisenberg‘s character pretty much finishes college and gets a crappy job like many people… which I can relate to that! The story seemed really believable as throughout the film the characters just go to work, not enjoy it and live for the weekend – like 99% of people out there with a job although it is exaggerated a little to make it a bit more fun. It has a great soundtrack with plenty of music by Lou Reed originally from Velvet Underground which are a fantastic band – so naturally i liked the soundtrack… The acting was good and overall a fun movie that I seemed to have missed somehow. Adventureland had good character development as well, A good movie to watch on the weekend! Many people didn’t seem to like but I don’t know why!

I got bored, It's not a comedy, not a drama and not a good romance so what is it. Not what you expect, so I would not recommend this movie. The story is very flat, and has no purpose in itself. It could have had more potential for some laugh and tears but no, they kept it to the bare minimum.

Wow, Kristen Stewart is terrible. Someone else could have played her character with more emotion and with more enthusiasm.

Very much a "Maybe". Jesse Eisenberg - read Michael Cera - plods along as the whimsical teen with hopes and dreams. The only really funny bits feature Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, but those scenes are few and far between. It's not terrible, but I've seen a lot better. And this film also reminded me (as if I needed it) that Kristen Stewart cannot act.

A very left of centre movie. If your looking for somehting other than your standard rom com this comes highly recomended. Kristen Stewart performance was much beter than the sappy efforts in twilight and Jessie Eistenberg (took a stab at the spelling) was great. However the stand out was certainly the Park owner for comic relief. Defanatly worth a watch however not all will appreciate.

Excellent coming of age film starring two young actors (Eisenberg and Stewart) who have gone on to bigger things. Directed by the same guy who did the very funny 'Superbad', but this is a sweeter and better film. Eisenberg plays a young man who has just finished high school and takes a Summer job at an amusement park called Adventureland. Set in 1987 it is a nostalgic look at first jobs, first loves and the transition from school kid to young adult. The young cast are terrific, the script is witty and it is funny and touching. I watched it with my teenage daughter and we could both relate to it.

You have to sit through it all to "enjoy" it. It has it's moments of lift and then stales out, some humour, bit of a love story, overall a decent watch.

Meh, this had the script but failed to deliver. A few funny moments in this sexual awakening movie for a somewhat nerdy kid, but mostly a poor attempt at an American coming of age movie. Checklist Going to college next year – tick Get a summer job - tick Fall in love with some girl - tick Get stoned - tick Do something dumb - tick Get ya heart broken - tick Tick, tick, frickin tic................you get the idea..................straight from the how to write a teenage flick manual.....nothing new here, move along, nothing to see.

Inconsequential but enjoyable movie. Dialogue was a little hard to pick up in some scenes. Some good acting particularly in the younger roles. Some characters were just too over-the-top for me.

Teen/young adult summer romance/drama that was interesting viewing. Initially I nearly lost interest but it improved as it went along. Interesting to see Kirsten Stewart as I've not seen any Twilight movies, I thought she was good, as was the young guy who played the main character. Could have been a lot worse!

After watching this movie only because it had Kristen Stewart in it, I have come to the conclusion that I don't really like her acting or facial expressions. Apart from that, to movie was ok. A kid gets a summer job at an amusement park and falls in love.

Nice teen movie with pretty good dialogues and laughs. Not too dumb for once and the acting is also excellent. The right choice for a Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon.

Expected a bit more from this movie but was reasonable. Rather watch American Pie movies, but as am bored with not being able to work, then still reasonably enjoyed. There really wasn't much in the way of "comedy". I didn't laugh much, so only a two star rate.

A coming of age summer comedy that plays like the writer's dream summer where he makes all the right decisions in some tough situations and still gets to date the two hottest girls depsite presenting himself as a geek. Enjoyable and a cut above usual teen comedy.

I did enjoy this movie. It's a bit slow and the teenage awkwardness can make you cringe from time to time. Overall it was enjoyable. My only real issue with this movie was Kristen Stewart. Between this and Twilight she doesn't seem to have much acting range.

I was expecting a teen comedy but instead got a romantic drama with some light comedy. Set in the mid-80's, it was a perfect depiction of life during an imperfect period and was not cluttered with the "in-house snickers" usually associated with gawdy retro fashions, CD's etc (eg. Wedding Singer) and videos. Soundtrack was fantastic too - more realistic or reminisent of the period than the glam rock and pop of the era associated with other movies of the time. And surprisingly, it was not all about losing your virginity. It was down to earth, honest, heart-felt and realistic. A great homage to the 80's and a more serious side for the director of "Super Bad".

This was an unexpected gem of a film. All the performances were credible and the story was heartfelt and endearing. Not just for a young audience, could be enjoyed by anyone with a sensitive nature.
