Based of a successful comic series, This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon.
This month of darkness is going to be a long one however, with a bloodthirsty group of vampires intent on leaving no survivors.
Touted as the best vampire movie in over a decade, it also co-stars Australia's own Melissa George.

Can I just say that Melissa George was never in Home and Away and the Australian media should stop insinuating that that's all she can do.... after all, croissants and walking the fog in New York is a better way for her to spend her time. LEAVE MELISSA ALONE! Stop being so small time Straya! Ah the movie - yes, I liked it.

Read the book and loved the movie. Happy they kept the polar bear part out of it though. Nasty with loads of violence & blood...

I like it. I'm a big vampire movie fan, so what ever it is I will enjoy. If I ws a vampire I'd go to this Alaskan town, plent of night, cut off for a month, no transport, they are easy pickins.

I dunno, this movie felt very contrived and dull to me. This was in part due to Melissa George and her one expression acting style - surprised and scared both look the same! However the normally reliable Josh Harnett was the same, it was like he was phoning in his part from Florida. Could have been much better.

This was one of the best new horror movies I've seen in quite a while. I really found myself on the edge of my seat at times and I loved the way the vampires were actually frightening to look at - not sparkly or pretty in any way! I think this movie would suit people who really enjoy a decent horror movie - there are some slow parts as mentioned but overall this was very well done.

This is probably one of the best vampire flicks to have come out in a long time. A great premise for a film, a town in Alaska shrouded in its annual 30 days of darkness is overrun by blood-thirsty vampires.
Just the right amount of blood and gore without being too over-the-top, this film should keep fans of the genre happy.
Filmed entirely in New Zealand the majority of the cast are Australian or New Zealanders as you can hear in some poor American accents, apart from Josh Hartnett.
I gave it 4/5.

By far one of the best vampire movies I've ever seen, it even has a (very small) love story which is done in such a way that makes you care for the characters with an ending that leaves you just a little sad, but satisfied.

The 'Kill Bill' of vampire movies...for those who like their fresh meat raw and bloody. Satisfyingly creepy and atmospheric. Don't try watching this movie on your laptop - all the action takes place in the dark.

As far as silly vampite movies go, this was up there with Blade. Probably a bit scarier though. Josh Hartnett is good, not sure about Australia's own Melissa George... Fun and bloody!

A very solid vampire movie that faithfully follows the comic book mini-series. Some excellent special effects and make-up, combined with a good story and soundtrack causes some jumps.

Interesting concept and impressively gruesome in places (extra points for the gigantic chainsaw action - wheee!). We found it pretty entertaining on the whole, mainly because we spent most of the movie poking fun at it. It was all a bit patchy, but the special/visual effects were good, the splatter was plentiful, and Josh Hartnett was admirably engaging as the hero of the piece. Definitely worth watching if you're in the mood for some blood-soaked arctic vampire action.

Not what i expected but a good movie to watch in front of the fire. Keeps you wanting to watch it even when the violence is bad. give your self a few hours of downtime a bowl of popcorn and watch this see if you can leave the tv for 5 mins. I dont think you will. You will be waiting for the sun to rise the whole time.

Very different from a lot of horror movies. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Another reviewer says it is like watching a horror novel and I agree. The pace changes instead of constant havoc going on from 20 minutes in until the end. It's (mostly) believeable and the acting was quite good.

Rubbish really !! So where did the vampires come from and why did they choose this winter to make their debut? We never get to find out. This movie only rates 2 because of the really good special effects and reasonable story line. The acting was typical horror flick i.e. very amateur and it became very predictable. Not really worth the effort.

An excellant new take on vampires that over take a small town in the Artic circle and the sheriff, his wife and others have to surive till the 30 days of night are up. The acting is brilliantly done and the direction throws in some good scare scenes along with good plot twists. The violence and gore is well done too with some good spashy kills. The ending is downbeat but suits the film well.
Def worth a rental and its good to see life returning to the vampire gene again.

Takes the vampire pic back to its scary, blood thirsty beginnings. This is the sort of vampire flick we've been looking for. Full of atmosphere, extremely graphic violence, and impenetrable darkness. Leaves the likes of Buffy a million miles behind.

I didn't have terribly high hopes for this movie, but kept seeing ads for it so decided to give it a try. Wish I hadn't bothered - totally farcial storyline, so bad in fact that it is one of only few movies I've not watched all the way through. Give this one a miss!

One of the worst movies i have seen, and i like bad movies and i like vampire movies more.
When that cant expalin a part of the really bad script the just skip forward a few days .
Could have made it half decent if they over did it so it was funny at least. but nope.
Could have done so much more with the storey set. shame.

You really need to watch this very late at night with a full moon and make sure you have the lights off and the windows open then you will really enjoy the full effect of the movie.

In my opinion, this is one of the best comic to film adaptations there's been - they've really done a great job keeping it very close to the comic's story, graphics, excellent different-to-every-other-vampire-flick vampires. It has a proper, gripping story, which is often what's lacking from horror flicks, and encourages the reputation that it's a dumbed down genre. The cast is great (yeah, EVEN Melissa George isn't half bad) and there's an excellent soundtrack of eerie melodies and soundscapes throughout that really adds to the whole thing.

Quite good. Very menacing in places and atmospherics were good. Story a little weak and there were minor pieces missing in places - but on the whole I enjoyed it. Not up there with Interview with the Vampire though - my absolute favourite!

Loved it, Menacing from the very start and got better as the plot developes. This is a must see for any genre lover and shows vampires of a new breed.
Some parts slow a little but that was a relief and anyone who's into reading novels of this type should also enjoy it, the movie really "watches" as many good horrors "read" - excellent detail.
Definantly one of the best i've seen in a long, long time....Josh Hartnett really surprised me and was perfect for his character!
Now i want the comic to read :)
