A story about 300 elite warriors taking on a greater army... Excellent fight scenes (but some were to long in slow-motion) betrayal, lover, lust... it is all there.... The clothing were more focuses on titillation then historical accuracy... Excellent story line. excellent acting.. time a bit short (116min)

The narrating annoyed me, the storyline could have been improved. However no doubts that the visual graphics and the acting was brilliant! I definitely enjoyed the battle scenes though they did go on for a bit too long. I wouldn't watch it again, but in a way I'm glad I've seen it. My brother fell asleep so he certainly was not captivated.

This stylized Greek world & battlefield has the typical Zac Snyder signature. The opposing forces though took on 2 distinct looks. The Spartans consisted of a stereotyped army of young males with CGI chests & abbs. The Persians, the villians of this movie, were more varied in their appearance. Xerxes was hideous as were some of his allied creatures, who were more suited to a mythological story like the Odyssey or Jason & the Argonauts, not a historic Greek battle. The battle scenes were well shot but overstaged. The acting performances were very passionate and saved the flick from total carnage .

Unusual treatment of the movie - almost surreal in it's look but quite entertaining. Loosely based on history and very much up in the testosterone levels. The swordplay is very good - a great hack and slash movie but the storyline was left behind in favour of wierd looking creatures and excellent settings. Could have been better...

Way too long, especially some of the battle/fight slo-mo stuff. Some of it definitely looked spectacular. The constantly changing weird accents were distracting and irritating. Could have done with a little less style and a bit more realism.

Quite a good movie with plenty of action and gore! As a military history devotee, however, there was so much wrong with the story that it irked me. The Persians were totally misrepresented - especially Xerxes who would never have dressed the way they showed him in the film. Also, there was a bit of almost mysticism in the way the Persian army were represented. On the Spartan side, Leonides wife would not have acted the way she did especially as Sparta always had 2 kings - one at home and one with the army. The rest of Spartan society was represented pretty accurately. As a Scotsman, it was interesting to hear Leonides with a Scottish accent!

This deserved the film critics' panning - in the end, boring. The blood was over the top, almost laughable. The original 300 Spartans was much better. This is "history" at its most spurious - at least in Lord of the Rings we know the story is a fairytale. David Wenham, you can do better than this.

An awesome movie. Nice scenery, fantastic action (especially the slow motion killing bit) and good overall directing. Very good performance from Gerard Butler as King Leonidas and all the cast. It is nice to know that this battle took place once (even though must have been much different from this movie). "the world will know that few, stood against many". Brilliant

An interesting view of 'revisionist' history. Didn't read the 'book' - but 'facts' presented in the movie (Freedom, etc) DON'T accord with the Spartan behaviour of enslaving the Helots. Sure they did battle the invading Persians, but their overall behaviour(s) weren't what was presented in the movie. Certainly a different style of 'movie making' - which probably saved the Producers a great deal of expense in sets/costumes, etc. But all-in-all good 'escapism'.

The previews did nothing for me as my taste in film styles is conservative. However I finally watched it by default and was absolutely blown away! There was no attempt to disguise this film as reality, it was unashamedly historical fantasy and what a fantasy it is! A deep love story, story of exceptional courage and loyalty, superb effects - the bar of the movie industry just rose higher. Last of all let's not forget all the wonderful eye candy for us ladies!

What could have possessed me to select 300? I managed an hour, but all of the computer generated images of gory mayhem (arms, legs, heads hacked off, spears and swords slicing through soft rib cages, showers of bogus blood specks, etc.) repeated over and over with trivial variations, was enough. It was sort of like a Philip Glass composition of battle scenes. For me archaic butchery, digital enhancement of male physique and one dimensional testosterone loaded warriors isn’t entertainment or even very thought provoking! I agree with one critic’s assessment of 300 as “an overwrought, revved-up, and deeply silly symphony of clanging steel and spurting blood.”

Another visually exciting (if so very over the top) filim of a comic. Truly very good. Nothing very historical about it except for the basic premise of the 300 Spartans stand (Spartan propaganda as that is). David Wenham does not convince I fear. But since we are Spartans we shall not fear! Unbelieveably hot men too (if that interests you) even so, all very manly stuff, nothing funny going on ere!

If you're looking for a historic account of the famous Spartan 300 this is not the movie for you. But if you just want to be entertained, this is probably a bit better than just "worth watching". Comic book rendition of the gallant stand of 300 Spartan warriors who held back hordes of invading troops. It uses a muted colour palette and has a grainy quality with a continously overcast and brooding background. Lots of digital background effects, simplistic script and story, moderate gore. It loses momentum and doesn't quite deliver what starts out as very promising- otherwise I'd call it excellent.

This is so hard to rate - I don't know whether I love it or hate it! Stylistically akin to "Sin City" & little resemblance to "The 300 Spartans". This film DOES NOT purport to be a retelling of history & so granted scriptwriters considerable leverage in grafting fantasy on to historical events. Though telegraphed, the scriptwriters even demonstrated a knowledge of Plutarch (verbatim ancient quotes - come back on your shield etc). I guess there's only so many Persians that can be hacked to bits before it gets repetitive, so hence the war-rhino! Watch with tongue thrust firmly in cheek!

This is a stunning, briliant film. It's distinct stylised look reflects the graphic novel on which it was based, and gives the film a wonderful mythic appearance. A story for the ages, an epic battle - bravery and courage at its best. It's a celebration of manhood and all the very best that men are capable of - as well as a depiction of the worst they are capable of also. Just a glorious, bloody and unforgettable film.

If you want a no brains action movie go for it. If you want any sense of a real plot or even a slight bit of history about what might have happened then watch the original 300 spartans/Lion of sparta. I found the special effects to be fairly poor. Definitely a case of 'style over substance'. Although visually quite stunning, the acting is 'stagey' at best, most of the dialogue being shouted, and the story isn't fleshed out enough. It's basically one long bloodfest, not unlike a video game, and the way Leonidas et al dispatch their opponents reminds me of 'The Bride' seeing off 'The Crazy 88' in Kill Bill....but not as funny. We know virtually nothing about the main characters, except that they all seem to be very angry and shout most of the time! Takes itself far too seriously for it's own good. Maybe Tarantino would have done a better job with it!

Not anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. Comic book stuff with so much splattering and squelching of fake blood that it's funny. Not sure about David Wenham and his voice in this one...

a nice movie with heaps of blood splattering over the screen... not sure whether the story is based on real events in the past, but ist could be true (because xerxes is a real ancient person as i know from my latin and ancient greek classes in high-school)

I just couldn't get through this although I tried three times. My 16 and 18 year old sons watched it through and were both very unimpressed. If you're just after some enjoyable light entertainment maybe give this one a miss.

Think: Graphic Novel in live action and you have the basis of 300. The awesome real life actors presented against the colourful and lush backdrops, combined with the compelling and intriguing storyline all work so well in this foray into the new genre of Film Graphois. This film has something for everyone - a storyline that is deeply embedded in legend and folklore, a romance to satisfy any romantic, battle scenes for the gore-loving film-goer, and a morality that will touch everyone. Don't miss out on this understated film.

I assumed I would be seeing an historical epic, but instead ended up watching what is a live action comic/computer game. There are so many things I disliked about this movie I won't waste time by listing them. If you're over twelve give it a miss.

One of the most masculine movies ever made. May not appeal to all the ladies (apart from all the ripped blokes) but definitly one for any guys dvd collection. Some of the best CGI work I have seen. Fantastic fight sequences, great story.

Silly beyond belief. The special effects would have been great in a horror movie but not in something supposedly historical. From a historical perspective it was just a nonsense, from the weapons (some using gunpowder for heavens sake) to the "beast-men". May appeal to kids who have never opened a history book. A few script changes would have turned it into a reasonable comedy. Worst movie we've seen in 2007.

Hyper-real muscle fest with ab six packs aplenty. Cross between a movie and a violent video game. OK for the under 18's? but pretty hollow for the ancient demographic like me.

Movie was reasonable, however the special effects were too much and as a result wrecked it, (when your cut or pierced by and arrow or decapitated, you bleed don't you, well not in this movie, well not much anyway, maybe a couple of drops). The story line was good, some of the facts were omitted or changed to suit the movie. I wouldn't rave about it.
