A great science fiction film. A shocking look at the implementation of the ideal totalitarian society.

What a terrific version of Orwell's future dystopia! I first saw this some years ago and it left me appalled, amazed and angry. Hurt's Winston Smith is unforgettable. The seedy, nasty future didn't seem at all strange to me. The gulled public put me very much in mind of the current batch of proles I have to endure. Thought provoking, shocking and beautifully made-a classic!!! Peter

Orwell's novel is disturbing to read, but this pretty good adaption is a nightmare to watch. A communist government has complete control of both the public and private lives of its citizens by using informers and setting up a cast-iron system of surveillance. A couple decide to break the rule of 'no fraternizing' by meeting surreptitiously. There tender affection for each other lifts the gloom for a while, but the movie is very hard-going and not to be recommended for a jolly evening's entertainment.

George Orwells book is an insightful look at what he perceived the future to be like. The book was at times difficult to read - I however enjoyed the portrayal of the book into film - Did the movie do the book justice? I think it did a reasonable job. For educators who are reading this text at high school level. I believe the film will assist students who maybe struggling with the written text - It's visuals assist in the comprehension of what George Orwell was attempting to portray relatively well.

Big Brother is watching you! A wonderful and extremely shocking look at the world we are about to live in. Based on the book by the same name, the film try's hard to capture some of this essence, it does fall short in some instances. Considering that both 1984 and Animal farm have both nearly been black listed by western culture for their ultra left wing views. If you liked V for vendetta or soylent green youl love this. Would like to see this film remade into a more modern tail

seldom has a novel of note been so dully and boringly adapted to a film. A great disappointment.
