The exciting, long-running series about ambitious men, tempestuous women and the great days of sail returns with the 10-part sixth series and all your favourite charaters.
Tragedy strikes early in the sixth series, when Robert Onedin dies unexpectedly. Meanwhile, newcomer on the scene, Josiah Beaumont, the son of a wealthy banker, has taken over Harris bank and is determined to make a success of it, regardless of who gets hurt in the process. James is seeking to expand his fleet with great plans for the future, which do not include children. Letty, however, yearns for a baby and is delighted to find herself pregnant. With persuasion from Captain Baines, James accepts the situation, hoping for a son who will bear the Onedin name. The Fogarty son William inherits the running of the Frazer Line, and James discovers that he is an unscrupulous opponent, both in business and in private life. Daniel is interested in building a canal from Liverpool to Manchester, an idea which horrifies Elizabeth who feels that it may spell ruin for their city. Charlotte is in love with her cousin William, and is carrying his child but, under the influence of Beaumont, William rejects her. Samuel, Charlotte's other cousin, who is now running Robert's shop is still in love with her and wants to marry her. At the end of the series, a family party celebrates the christening of Charlotte's new child. James holds up his grandson Robert the future of the Onedin Line.
