The BBC's adaptation of John Wyndham's classic novel has been hailed as an atmospheric, gripping and faithful production. The brainchild of Blake's 7 producer David Maloney, this post-apocalyptic series was broadcast in 1981, when fears of a nuclear Armageddon were at their height. The series generated cult appeal that had the lengevity to be considered an influence on 2002's 28 Days Later.Following the Earth's close encounter with a comet, a meteor shower strikes Britain's population blind. Bill Mason, recovering in a London hospital from a vicious plant attack, is one of a few to survive with eyesight intact. The world he emerges into has already terrifyingly altered. The government has collapsed, bands of renegades are thriving in the anarchy - and a hostile, carnivorous form of plant life, the Triffids, have begun to prey on the weakened and vulnerable human population. For Mason, life is now a desperate struggle...

Captures the suspense and terror of the book very well but could have been better.

Brilliant series. Still delivering chills after all these years. Sure, the effects are dated now, but the very real fear of society falling over certainly isn't.

Brought back memories of Dr Who episodes of the 70's. A good interpretation of the book. BBC always do a good mini series.

The British tv series of Day of the Triffids is very faithful to the original story, i had to read this story when i was at school 40 plus years ago.. and i seen this series on tv in the 80's..its still spooky, a very good Sci-Fi story

Harmless fun. A good series, predictable and very dated, but nontheless worth kicking back with a few drinks for a nostalgic look. I enjoyed it. Not filled with mindless sex and violence, and even half way decent acting (though not Academy Award). good for a rainy day.

really dated now - especially the Triffids themselves, but a pretty good adaption of the story. Wyndham fans may appreciate it.

Not the seminal version that fans of John Wyndham's novel would be expecting. Very low budget and too little emphais on the triffids, but okay.

If you like the old series of Dr WHO then you'll enjoy this. For its day, a well acted and told story about survival of the fittest.

Fantastic plot but the actually movie being cut into chapters is very annoying. You get to view the credits 6 times over (just in case you missed them in the first instance). Fortunately I have a fast forward button. But I was still entranced just as much as I was the first time I saw this movie way back yonder.

Very Very big venus flytraps but with humans as their prey, classic sci-fi horror with a fantastic storyline and genuine chills. Fantastic.
