The fourth series to follow on from the success of the original 'Star Trek', blasts off with Scott Bakula starring as Captain Jonathan Archer, in command of the first Earth space ship to bear the name 'ENTERPRISE- NX-01'.

Set early in the 22nd century, 150 years before James T. Kirk boldly took his crew where no man had gone before, the new series lives the story of the intergalatic upheaval that eventually leads to the formation of The Federation. Its compelling stories of team bravery and individual heroism are sure to answer countless questions for both die-hard fans of the series and viewers new to the 'Star Trek' universe.

Through their struggles humans, will learn to be free of Vulcan domination, since their First Contact, humans have been somewhat looked down on as too emotional and prone to violence. Archer's mission will be the making or the breaking of Earth's ability to go it alone in space, without constant Vulcan supervision.

But as the mission proceeds, Captain Archer becomes aware of an alien race, known as the Suliban, who want to start a 'Temporal Cold War', they take orders from a mysterious future being and are intent on destroying Enterprise's mission...

Although Enterprise was a good series in its own right it was never truly part of the Star Trek universe. The year was wrong (Starfleet having been long standing in 2151 when it was never established until 2161, see the Starfleet Insignia), the technology was wrong (phasers, rudimentary ones that is, sub space radio, transporters and photon torpedos all at least 60 years before they existed, and conveniently re named might I ad. As well as an Akira Class Ship 200 years before they were ever designed), the history in general was wrong (Klingons, Ferengi, Romulans and Borg all encountered decades, in some cases CENTURIES ahead to their time in true Star Trek history. Zepnram Cochrane making public appearances long after he had disappeared without trace forever) and the characters were deplorably wrong (Vulcans suffering anxiety attacks, lying where it’s not possible for them to do so *Se TNG episode Data’s Day* and even getting angry, neat trick for a race with complete emotional control. This series was a good Sci-fi but tacking the words Star Trek on to the title was a cheap attempt to cash in on past successes, it was an insult to the fans and the producers paid the price by watching their new series die prematurely and rightfully so.

This first disc sets the scene for an impressively well thought out (technology-wise) series... linking the events of First Contact to the original series.
