Fantastic! This is British comedy at its best. I watched the whole set twice, and it got better with repetition. Benedict Cumberbatch was superbly cast as Sherlock Holmes, and what a performance. A real treat.

The idea for this series is brilliant - bring Sherlock Holmes into the 21st century and let him loose on modern crimes (which are based on the originals) and modern society. Benedict Cumberbatch is superbly cast as Sherlock. He simply owns this role and makes it his. You will really believe he is Sherlock - highly intelligent but flawed in social skills. Leaves the recent movies of Sherlock Holmes for dead. Most of the supporting cast are great, although I found the Moriaty character a bit weak and frankly, unbelievable. They should have cast someone older and more 'evil looking' for such an important role - James Nesbitt would have been good, if they really wanted the character to have the Irish accent. Apart from that, this series is hard to fault. A must view for Sherlock Holmes fans and in fact, all lovers of British crime series. Highly recommended. Liked it so much I bought the series so I can watch whenever I am in the mood.

Sherlock Holmes Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are the ideal ‘modern’ Holmes and Watson. Tight script, pacey direction and intricate plots are the ingredients that support the two main actors. Cumberbatch is excellent with a formidable command of diction and displaying a clarity thought that is rare these days. His Holmes is feisty, arrogant but flawed. Unlike Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Holmes who was addicted to heroin, this Holmes is addicted to [his own] superiority. He is still the hero, though, fighting his archenemy and intellectual equal, Moriarty. Freeman’ Watson is the perfect foil for Holmes: being stable, rational and sometimes subjected to demeaning behaviour by the famous detective. Bringing Sherlock into contemporary times is a stroke of genius. This is an excellent series.
