Two gay friends. Vince and Stuart, live on a cocktail of sex, drugs and clubbing. They are both 29, Stuart is the type of guy who cops off every time he goes out. One night he spots 15-year-old Nathan and brings him back to his apartment where they make love. Now, Nathan is still after stuart, but Stuart just thinks of Nathan as one in a long line of one night stands.

Based around the relationships of these three young men. The series boldy goes where no other British TV drama has gone before. But underlying the many headline grabbing moments is an important drama exploring the intoxicating extremes of modern-day life and love. Refreshingly non-judgmental and atypical in its avoidance of stereotype, the series assumes nothing other than the sophistication of its audience. With a delightful comic script drawing fine performances from the young cast, 'Queer As Folk' is a vibrant, vital and honest reflection of today's youth culture.

The first part of this series starts off very wobbly, all over the place. Characters are settling in and adjusting themselves. The Nathan character suffers particularly from these early stage wobbles. The writing is very stereotypical and almost misoginist in nature. The second disc is by far the highlight of this series.

I know it was ground-breaking at the time but the UK version just didn't live up to the US version. I would watch this only if you haven't seen the US one.

Not anywhere as good as the US version, and I couldn't help but compare the two, however still enjoyable. Think the UK one is the original and pushed the boundaries when it aired. Acting was OK. About to start watching Series 2 -

The acting's good and the various plot lines are pretty compelling although confronting at times in the way it tackles aspects of modern life such as the role of drugs and the isolation of people in big cities as well as the various issues affecting gay people. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the US version but perhaps that's only because I saw the other one first.

Stuart the central character is a few sandwiches short of a picnic and the rest of them are pretty sad too. If this series represents real life in gay city then I feel sorry for all of them.

Extremely fine performances by all, including newcomers. Very competent direction which has aged well. Mature storyline and sitting in" the provinces" adds greatly to this quite revolutionary series. Well worth seeing again.

This British series is much better by far than the American version I'd seen earlier on SBS. The characters seem far more real than the plastic actors of the American series.
