The arrival of the wealthy Mr Darcy in the neighbourhood causes great excitement within the Bennett family. One of her five daughters, Mrs Bennet feels, is sure to capture the heart of the wealthy young aristocrat. That fate befalls the spirited Elizabeth. Judging him on first impressions and the malicious gossip of friends, she rejects his advances. However, as she busies herself with the stormy romances and scandal of her sisters, she once again finds herself in his company. Gradually her opinions of this proud young man begin to change... Amid a host of delightful characters, and against a background of grand stately homes and beautiful countryside, this famous romance runs its rocky course.

Masterful adaptation of the most read classic in English. Wonderful performances, in particular, Colin Firth. Who is the definitive Mr Darcy. Whom I now visualise when reading the novel and cannot abide any other version.

Following several film attempts at the novel, this film for me comes closest by far to the Jane Austen's characters - with the exception of the exaggerated character of Mrs Bennet, just a little to over the top for me. The remaining characters and production are simply superb. I've watched three or four times, and look forward to re-visiting on many more occasions. Refuse all substitutes/alternatives!

I would never have wasted my time with the other version had I watched this one first! In this version you get to know the characters and enjoy the story.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Didn't want it to end!

For the true Jane Austen Fan this series stay very true to the novel. With wonderful performances by Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Check out the making of on second disk very intersting facts about staying authentic to the period.

Perfect adaptation of the novel. All the actors are superb, the English countryside is beautiful and Colin Firth is a dreamboat!
It has been absolutely delightful to be able to watch the whole series again.

I'm not really a fan of the book but this version is very watchable. Ehle is fantastic as Lizzie and Firth is the man we all want after the swimming in the lake scene. Even if you aren't a fan of the classics this is well worth seeing.

Loved seeing this again without having to wait each week for the episodes! Stayed up late two nights in a row to devour the delicious humour and scrummy visuals of the sumptuous english countryside and its gentlemen!

I loved every aspect of this period drama, the actors, the way they acted out their characters - even better than the ABC version series but liked that version as well, this however is soooo much better in every aspect and each and every time I watch I begin to daydream - I only wish that there was a sequel to it - even though it doesn't need it - I just wish that there was and that this story would never end
