Poldark is the beloved BBC mini series set against the stormy socio-political backdrop of 18th-century England. The year is 1783 and the disastrous American War of Independence has ended. Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis), a soldier, returns home to Cornwall, to Nampara, his house and land, and to two idle mines, all fallen to disrepair. He hopes to settle down with his inheritance and his beloved Elizabeth (Jill Townsend), but false reports of his death precede his arrival, resulting in heartbreaking circumstances.

Based on the novels by Winston Graham, the series develops into one of romance, fierce rivalry, smuggling and adventure.

If you loved the books, don't watch the TV series. They do try hard, but it's pretty awful.

Showing its age. It would be a wonderful series if it was redone by the BBC.

This series is great and stands the test of time - lovers of BBC programs will appreciate it. We loved the costumes and locations a good adventure type romance with cliff hanging endings to each episode.
