John Adams is a sprawling HBO miniseries event that depicts the extraordinary life and times of one of Americas least understood, and most underestimated, founding fathers: the second President of the United States, John Adams. Starring Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Cinderella Man, HBOs American Spendor) in the title role and Laura Linney (You Can Count on Me, Kinsey) as Adams devoted wife Abigail. John Adams chronicles the extraordinary life journey of one of the primary shapers of American independence and government, whose legacy has often been eclipsed by more flamboyant contemporaries like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin. Set against the backdrop of a nation's stormy birth, this sweeping miniseries is a moving love story, a gripping narrative, and a fascinating study of human nature. Above all, at a time when the nation is increasingly polarized politically, this story celebrates the shared values of liberty and freedom upon which America was built.

The USA has such a rich history that it makes any story about it's birth a story rich in suspense and larger than life characters, and this is such a story. An incredible story with a magnificent cast of Actors make this a story not to be missed by those who love a good Historical drama. Not a Movie for the Car Chase/Action/ Shoot Em Up crowd, but everyone else should not miss this Story.

If you are interested in the history of the emergence of the Unites States as a nation & some of the key players in that early history then this series is for you. Captivating & compelling viewing. Anyone who enjoyed "The West Wing "should also enjoy this series.

I am not a student of American history and therefore not able to discern if this series closely replicates the real history or if this is a prefabrication. What I can say is that there are some excellent performances from an excellent cast which makes this series very well worth watching

The three discs are an astonishing historical tour "de force". Whilst not all aspects of the Revolution are covered (many colonists were not in favour of separation from England), the times are nonetheless portrayed in great depth and I felt these were real people, not actors. Adams was one of the few presidents to keep America out of a war, a pity his example was not followed in later times. The personal drama and stress of office is extremely well presented and the sets and atmosphere totally convincing. Wait till you see the new White House! The precariousness of every day life with the limited but well intentioned health care of the times is well done. A most informative series and worth every penny spent on it, and every minute watching it.
