Set within the highly charged confines of individual psychotherapy sessions. In Treatment centres around Dr Paul Weston who recently divorced his wife Kate, and has moved from Maryland to a Brookyln, New York. Rebuilding his practice while wrestling with some of the demons he left behind- including a lawsuit filed by the father of a patient who died last year- Paul takes on several new patients and commutes to Maryland every Friday to continue his own sessions with Dr Gina Toll. Among his new clients are a previous patient still harbouring resentment toward Paul from their sessions 20 years ago, an architecture student who refuses to tell her family of her recent cancer diagnosis, a young boy caught in the middle of his parents' devastating divorce, and a stress-ridden CEO complaining of insomnia while in denial over a multitude of problems.
