A very good adaption of a grand tale
ok, a little drawn out; could be edited; knightley wooden; not as good as the sixties original with the haunting Lara's theme
Watched this modern version for the very first time and enjoyed it then had to hire the second to see what was going to happen next. Very good story line and a bit gory in pats but to be expected during these times.
A decent remake of the old classic. Some beautiful photography. The pacing is slow with a number of scenes dragging a fair bit longer than needed. Would have suited the film to be cut to roughly the same length as the original. Having said that, the story and characters are still strong and drag you through the tedious bits.
An interesting successor to David Lean's nineteen sixty-five production of Doctor Zhivago, this modern BBC version of Boris Pasternak's novel seems to add a bit more grunt and colour to the stolid scenes painted by Omar Sharif and Julie Christie. It should be added, however, that if you have read the novel, this film is a screen adaption not a reproduction of the novel. This film deserves at least one watch for anybody who likes good drama although the acting by Keira Knightley can seem a little routine at times.
A good remake of a somewhat annoying story. Annoying because it's themes sometimes reflect reality and not everybody is perfect. Not for the optimist.

Beautiful. Must admit I didn't realise this would be an updated version but loved the story, the scenery, the actors. Watched it over two nights curled up with a favourite man and we both enjoyed it tremendously!
Absolutely breathtaking. Visually superb.....emotionally provocative and moving.
Eventhough a long movie I didn't want it to end.
I loved this movie! It's an old story that has so many truths to it. It was so romantic. Great movie. I enjoyed every minute of it!
Fantasic, I saw the first movie and this is just as captivating. Fantastic acting by all actors. Overall its a classic.
Fantastic.... Hard to find a better love story these days. My name is Lara, I have called my daughter Katya and my ex lover was called victor!
My daughter watched this for part of VCE History and thought it was really really good, however, far too long! Same for Disk 2. All the same though, enjoyable.
should never have been made.
Horrible, flat as a Swiss 5 cents......sorry!!!
Better than the original. Excellant cast relives the events leading up to the Russian Revolution and tells of love, honour and wealth lost and found again. 2 discs compelled to watch till the end.
KEIRA KNIGHTLEY is quiet possibly the most georgous woman to have ever lived and aside from a few bad wigs at the start of this epic tale of her character bed hopping with three gentlemen that until disc2 the love scenes were virtually cut out which is such cruelty for a chic flick this long. However that is about as Russian as this movie gets but for the most part the time and period has been recreated somewhat believably aside from the overhead electric trainlines in moscow and the few blatant cut scenes to file footage scenes from the actual period. What really makes this movie is the actress who plays Dr Zhivagos wife, she is the most compelling character and gives an amazing performance also a notable mention of child who plays Zhivago as a young boy. This is remake of an epic so beware if your partner wans to watch this one then the original it is a long time but for the most part a good night in.
After initial disappointment that this was not the original version with Julie Christie and Omar Sharif, we found this an excellent retelling of a classic love story.
Unexpectedly, I enjoyed this lavish production, having remembered a rather dreary long winded movie or novel (I can't quite remember which). I'm looking forward to the second CD.
